Associate Prof. Ali Cengiz Beğen, a faculty member at Özyeğin University, won the honorable mention award at the ACM SIGMM Test of Time Paper Award 2022 in recognition of the article "An Experimental Evaluation of Rate-Adaptation Algorithms in Adaptive Streaming over HTTP", of which he is one of the co-authors. The awards are presented by the ACM (Association of Computing Machinery) Special Interest Group on Multimedia (SIGMM) to the authors of papers dating back to 10-12 years ago that exerted the highest impact and influence on the field of multimedia. The award recognizes papers based on their impact and influence on the field of multimedia in terms of research, development, product, or ideas.
The article that Dr. Beğen co-authored with Saamer Akhshabi and Constantine Dovrolis in 2011 won the honorable mention award in the "Multimedia Systems-Networks" category. The award-winning article focuses on user experience and resource utilization from the perspective of content and network service providers through the examples of Netflix, Smooth Streaming, and OSMF, leading players in the industry. Today, the article still continues to make significant contributions to the development of the industry and is considered one of the most successful resources presented at the ACM events.
